WEST Cork is well used to welcoming its share of celebrity visitors every summer, and among them this year could be former US president and first lady Barack and Michelle Obama.

They are executive producers for the Netflix TV series Bodkin currently being filmed in Union Hall and Glandore.

As exclusively revealed in The Southern Star back in April, filming for the seven-part comedic thriller will take place over the summer, as well as in locations in Dublin and Wicklow.

The plot involves a motley crew of podcasters who set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic, coastal Irish town, called Bodkin.

The cast includes Will Forte, known for his Saturday Night Live appearances, who plays Gilbert – a US podcaster with Cork roots, on the hunt for his next big story.

Other cast members include Robyn Cara, Siobhan Cullen, David Wilmot, and Chris Walley – who played Jock in The Young Offenders and who, this time round, plays an Irish ‘lad’ called Sean O’Shea.

This is the first major drama series for Netflix by the Obamas’ Higher Ground Productions. Wild Atlantic Pictures and Wiip are also working on the series.
