A visit by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Bandon could set some West Cork hearts a-flutter.

A VISIT by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Bandon could set some West Cork hearts a-flutter as council officials intend to invite him to visit his ancestrol home of Bandon.

While on a visit to Ireland last month with his wife Sophie and their son Hadrien, Trudeau was informed by researchers at the Irish

Emigration Museum in Dublin that he is a direct descendant of the Bernard family and they were able to trace his family back 10 generations to 17th century Ireland.

At a meeting of Bandon Kinsale Municipal District in Kinsale this week, Bandon-based Councillor Gillian Coughlan (FF)  called on the group to formally send an invitation to Trudeau to visit

‘We should as a Municipal District get in contact with Justin Trudeau and invite him to come here,' said Cllr Coughlan.

‘He is a young dynamic prime minister and his visit would be a great boost for Bandon,' she said.

Municipal District Officer Enda O'Halloran told councillors that they would send the invite to him.
