IT was sold out weeks in advance – such was the fever surrounding ‘The Cube’ Fundraiser at the Parkway Hotel in Dunmanway recently.

Just like the television show on ITV, participants on the night got to try their hand at beating The Cube, while at the same time raising much-needed funds for local charities.

The MC on the night was Cork native and comedian Alan Shortt who entertained the huge crowd and 33 contestants.

‘The event was a hugely successful fundraiser with in excess of €16,650 raised for local charities and clubs and each of the 33 contestants represented and raised much-needed funds for their chosen charity or club,’ said Sandra Maybury of Stage Serv, speaking to The Southern Star.

The overall winner of the competition was Denis Duggan, who won €2,000 for the Children’s Unit at Cork University Hospital.

Other winners on the night included Donnacha Deasy who won €500 for the Dunmanway Day Unit at Cork University Hospital and Niall Hurley who won €250 for Togher Celtic FC. Charities that also benefitted from the event include West Cork Rapid Response, Karen O’Mahony Benefit Fund, Cancer Connect and West Cork Animal Welfare.
