NOW in its 22nd year the Bandon Music Festival returns this June Bank Holiday weekend, with a mix of new and familiar faces added to the line-up.

Having recently being announced as the support act for The Rolling Stones in Croke Park next month, The Academic from Westmeath will headline the festival, with support from local act The Livelees.

On Saturday night it’s the turn of Ryan Sheridan while Ronan Nolan takes to the stage on the Sunday night, with support from Dublin newcomers Tanjier.

Having seen their debut album ‘Tales from the Backseat’ debut at No 1 in the Irish charts, The Academic have been receiving critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic and will certainly draw the crowds at this year’s event.

‘We are very excited to bring these top quality acts to Bandon in 2018 and the Bandon Music Festival is a community-run festival that has grown organically into one of Ireland’s leading independent music events,’ said committee member Carol Crean.

The fact that Bandon has been doing this for 22 years is a tribute to the commitment of the organisers, the festival’s supports, partners and of course the loyal festival goers that come from all corners of Cork city, county and beyond.’

In addition to the headline concerts, the Bandon Music Festival also features a free music trail with bands playing at participating pubs all across the weekend each night until 2am.

The festival will also be supporting a fundraiser for Bandon Playground Group which will see a Joe Dolan Tribute Band play in the GAA Pavilion on Friday June 1st.

There will also be music and street entertainment at the Riverview Shopping Centre with the Red FM roadshow and live entertainment by local youth acts Fireflies and Act 5 performing free, along with children’s activities.

Cork South West TD Jim Daly said he was delighted to hear that the festival is in full flow in its 22nd year: ‘Local festivals such as the Bandon Music Festival are a most welcome boost to the local economy and provide the community with an opportunity to enjoy the festival.’ See bandonmusicfestival.com for ticket information and updates or find ‘Bandon Music Festival’ on Facebook.
