Skibbereen singer-songwriter Paudy Hourihan, aka PAUDY H, is gearing up for the release of his latest track, a cover of Kris Kristofferson’s Sunday Morning Coming Down.

‘Kris Kristofferson was a big influence on me. I started listening to Kris in my 20s, about the same time as I was listening to Johnny Cash. His music, it’s very meaningful. You’d sit down, and you’d listen to it. His music means a lot to me. It hits you, and it speaks to you. It’s relatable. It’s about the same time that I started writing too; his music awakened that part of me, the writing’.

Paudy says he recorded the track last year and it was ready to be released. However, with the passing of Kristofferson, he opted to wait a year out of respect to his memory.

‘I thought carefully about what track to record. When people think of him, they think of the likes of Bobby McGee, but we don’t hear something like Sunday Morning Coming Down a lot. My recording is a little faster than the original, but it doesn’t lose its meaning. I wanted to make something a little different, and that has meaning for me’.

A locally-shot video to accompany the track, which is being promoted currently on Hot Country TV, is ‘in the works’ while the song itself is being released on September 28th, the one-year anniversary of Kristofferson’s death at the age of 88. The day itself is prescient as it is, luckily, a Sunday.

The track will be widely available on all music streaming platforms from September 28th.
