Skibb road to close for two months

The Carraig Road in Skibbereen will close for two months to facilitate works on the River Ilen.

CORK County Council has confirmed that the Carraig Road in Skibbereen will be closed from 8am on August 28th to 9pm on October 23rd to facilitate River Ilen Flood Defence Works. The L-42151-0, from its junction with Mill Road (R593-93), for a distance of approximately 150m will be closed on a 24 hour basis.

For traffic travelling south on the Mill Road (R593-93) from the junction of the Mill Road and L-4251-0, proceed along the Mill Road until the junctions with the Skibbereen  by-pass (N71-683). Turn left along the N71-683, going through the roundabout taking the first exit for those heading east bound. At the next junction, where the N71-683 meets the L-4215-0 (Carraig Road) turn left. Drivers can then proceed along the L-4215-0 until the junction of the L-4215-0 (Carraig Road) and the L-4215-0 where the detour ends.

For traffic travelling south along the L-4215-0 (Carraig Road), from the junction of the L-4215-0 (Carraig Road) and the L-4215-0 proceed southwards towards the junction of the L-4215-0 and the N71-683. Turn right at the junction, onto the N71-683. Proceed through the roundabout onto the Skibbereen by-pass (take second exit) until the junction of the N71-683 and the R593-93 (Mill Road). Proceed along the R593-93 until the junction of the R593-93 and the L-4215-0 where the detour end.

Any person interested may lodge an objection in writing to the closing of these roads to Cork County Council before Thursday August 10th.

Cork County Council has also confirmed that the R587 from its junctions with the R586 in Dunmanway to its junction with the R585 at Shanlaragh Cross Roads will be closed from Monday September 4th to Friday October 13th  to allow for works on Derreens Bridge, Dunmanway.
