Students raise over €1k for hospital

THIRD Year students of Clonakilty Community College have raised over €1,000 for the local Community Hospital.

As part of their Action Project for their CSPE (Civil Social and Political Education), the Junior Cert class of 3D spent a day collecting on the streets of the town before Christmas. 

They also held a raffle outside O’Donovan’s Hotel for a hamper which was kindly donated by Scally’s SuperValu and won by Paula Lyons.

‘The students wanted to contribute through the concepts of development and human dignity to help the sick and elderly in their community,’ said their teacher Dermot Brennan.

‘They worked very hard by making contact with the hospital, local businesses, An Garda Síochána and liaising with school management. Their level of dedication to achieving something significant for their community was magnificent.’

Dermot added that their efforts show that modern day teenagers are capable of awareness and leadership for their community.

‘They felt a great pride in their achievement and as their teacher I am equally proud of their efforts,’ he said.

On Monday December 17th the students visited Clonakilty Community Hospital and presented their cheque for €1,129 to hospital managers Mary Nolan and Siobhán O’Regan.
