IT was a case of ‘daring do’ for members of Skibbereen Walking Group as they rescued a ram that was immovably stuck on a steep embankment last weekend.
Seventy-something Eric Threapleton from Coornishal, Skibbereen, didn’t hesitate and jumped down the embankment when he spotted the animal.
Eric quickly identified the problem – the ram’s left hind leg was caught on a branch and it prevented him from moving so much as an inch forward or back.
With Eamon Murphy from Clonakilty holding the animal’s horns, Eric – together with Pat McCormack of Skibbereen and Dublin – were in a position to break the branch, and all three of them hauled the ram to safety.
It was all a rather dramatic end to a pleasant and peaceful walk – led by Des Barry – to the picturesque ‘Lake of the Cows and the Twelve Oak Trees’ in Coomarkane, Glengarriff on Easter Sunday.
