WEST Cork could be in line for four new padel tennis courts after Padel Sports 100 Ltd lodged an application for the courts at the Westlodge Hotel in Bantry, writes Kieran O’Mahony.

The company is seeking permission for four modular, portable padel tennis courts with artificial grass surface along with four metre high fencing around sections of the padel courts perimeter and integrated LED lighting.

Padel Tennis is a hybrid of tennis and quash with one of the country’s largest padel tennis facility operating out of Carrigtwohill, while another facility opened on the Monahan Road near the Marina in Cork city just before Christmas.

This is the second such application for padel tennis courts in the West Cork region - a planning application was lodged by Benjamin Ridgeway to construct three padel tennis courts at Ballyduvane, Clonakilty.

It would also see the construction of a clubhouse with male and female changing rooms, a café with a patio area and a drive through shop.

Planning permission is also being sought for a new carpark with 29 spaces, a new splayed natural stone entrance gate and a wastewater treatment system.
