A FUNDRAISER for a cancer support house is being held in Castletownbere.

Bantry’s ARC Cancer Support House will benefit from a night of music and dancing at the Beara Coast Hotel in Castletownbere on Saturday, May 13th.

Shawn Cuddy and his band will be making the journey from Donegal while Tipperary’s Louise Morrissey will also be on stage. Early dancing is to West Cork’s own Joe Cooke.

Singer Louise Morrissey continues to blaze a trail across Ireland, the UK, and USA. She recently featured on TG4’s Glór Tíre where she mentored Dermot Lyons, and she also hosts her own show on Sky’s Keep it Country TV channel.

Louise will be on tour both in Ireland and in the UK in the next few months and will appear at the Boston Irish Festival in June.

She will release a new single in a few weeks, and is currently working on a three-CD collection.

Since the launch of his band in 1989, Shawn Cuddy has enjoyed immense success, both in touring and recording, with 10 albums and five DVDs to his credit. He recently won the Dance Band of the Year award for the second consecutive year.

Tickets for the event are €15 from 087 1010384 and the Beara Coast Hotel will have deals on pre-show meals and B&B. Doors open at 8pm, with dancing from 9pm ‘til late.

The ARC house in Bantry is at The Bungalow, Bayview in Goureebeg. It is open to the communities of both West Cork and south Kerry, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am-4pm, offering visitors a warm welcome and a space to feel at ease.

The drop-in centre is the focus of the house and visitors may come in without appointment and will be met by one of the trained volunteer listeners in a relaxed atmosphere.

Complementary therapies, including counselling, massage and reflexology, are available by appointment. All are welcome to join in the ‘Hour of Calm’ each Tuesday from 11am. This is a drop-in group session led by experienced facilitators, offering techniques of progressive relaxation, breath work, meditation, visualisation and mindfulness, creating a space of peace, rest and calm.
