WHEN Life Gives You Lemons is a new two-part book by Rosscarbery writer, Lorna Barrett.
Lorna, who works in banking, recently indulged her life-long love of writing and is delighted with the response she is getting to her first offering – a book about four women who have been friends since childhood.
‘I always wanted to write a book from as far back as I can remember,’ said Lorna. ‘When I was 15, I won a national short story award and that is an indication of the passion I have always had for the written word.
‘In recent years, I found myself writing more and more when I got the time to do it, such as when the kids were at school. I write women’s fiction – chick lit,’ said Lorna. ‘It is pure escapism. I think that people love to lose themselves in books and the lives of the characters in them.’
In that regard, When Life Gives You Lemons is romantic and often funny. It deals with the subjects of friendship, marriage break-up, internet dating and depression, among other things.
Lorna is a self-published author. She believes self-publishing gives authors the opportunity that traditional publishers don’t, and the Amazon platform provides writers with the opportunity to reach a much larger audience. ‘It’s working for me at any rate,’ said Lorna, who is enjoying good sales and is looking forward to the publication of her next book. However, she is secretly pleased that local bookshops are showing an interest in her work, and having her books on their shelves.
Lorna has, in fact, three more book that are almost ready for publishing, two of which are based in West Cork. To learn more check her out on Amazon.
