SIR – In order to get the 8th Amendment referendum across the line, the government will have to publish the legislation that will go it, so that we can see what we are voting for. The legislation is a fancy term for putting words on the terms and conditions under which human life may be taken.

I don’t want to dismiss the personal crises that mothers may experience, but we are being led to believe that the solution to these crises is the death penalty for the person in the womb.

If justice is to be applied here, then surely the child in the womb is innocent of the circumstances of its conception or health condition? In truth, the term has been decided by nature as around nine months from conception, in the vast majority of cases that the constitution currently protects.

Give life a chance, for when we extinguish life, we extinguish hope. Keeping the protection of the unborn child in the constitution is a message of hope, for we are saying, we value your life too.
