A FIFTH class student in Kilmeen national school has collected almost €150 with a novel but simple collection among his friends. Fifth class student Peter Cox is appealing to the people of West Cork to follow his lead by gathering up their one and two cent coins for the St Vincent de Paul charity.

Peter came up with the idea last year when the Central Bank announced the phasing out of the use of smaller coins.

Aware that small gestures can make a big difference, Peter asked fellow students to gather any loose change at home, so he could donate it to St Vincent de Paul.  So far, Peter has collected almost €150 and is appealing to people in West Cork to send their one and two cent coins to him at Kilmeen NS  so he can make a presentation to the charity.
