INNISHANNON jockey Aidan Coleman is recovering from injuries he sustained after he was assaulted on Tuesday following a UK race meeting.

The jump jockey had just finished the last race on the card at Southwell Racecourse Mares’ Novices Hurdle, where he finished last aboard Sawwala, when members of the public broke into the changing room and assaulted him. It is understood he suffered a bloody nose and a broken tooth following the assault.

Police later arrested four people with two men and one woman arrested on suspicion of assault and damage, while another woman was arrested for obstructing police.

Aidan told the Racing Post that ‘two of them burst into the changing room and when they were asked to leave it all kicked off, I think they had drunk that much they didn’t know what they were doing.’
