Skibbereen brothers conquer the world
GARY and Paul O’Donovan are world champions!
The Skibbereen Rowing Club stars produced the best race of their lives as they won gold in the A final of the men’s lightweight single sculls at the World Rowing Championships in Bulgaria on Saturday morning.
Second at the halfway point, Gary and Paul soon hit the front ahead of the Italians and stayed in front until the end, finishing in 6:06.180, just outside the world’s best time.
The Irish duo have now added world gold to their growing medal collection that also includes Olympic gold from Rio 2016.
