THERE was a memorable gathering for the members of the Muskerry Vintage Club recently as they came together for a special ‘Cars ‘n’ Coffee’ event.

‘As it’s the 100th anniversary of Ford in Ireland this year, we put the word out and collected over 50 proud Ford owners and their incredible collection of vintage and classic cars,’ Muskerry Vintage Club secretary, Lar Cummins told The Southern Star

‘We hold our Cars ‘n’ Coffee events during the winter months, and while this has always been a very popular day out, the last event held at The Abbey Hotel in Ballyvourney saw well over 100 cars of various makes and vintages, along with their owners, gather to celebrate a century of Ford in Cork.’

The Muskerry Vintage Club first took to the highways and byways in 1990 when car enthusiasts in the Gaeltacht village of Ballyvourney got together to showcase their love of cars and to organise themselves into a club.

‘We started off with a static show on Whit Sunday in 1991,’ Lar recalled.

‘From that first outing, we moved on to a series of runs which proved very popular and attracted people from all over West Cork and beyond. In 2016 the club took over the running of the Charity Run based in Dunmanway (previously organised by Donal O’Leary and team) and even though it was new territory for us, the event was a major success, raising much-needed funds for the Friends of Co-Action West Cork.’

The Cars ‘n’ Coffee events are very relaxed social events, explained Lar.

‘It’s to get the members and enthusiasts together over the winter and keep the interest alive,’ he said.

‘The venue for each one of these monthly outings is a different location to add variety,’ he explained.

The next day out is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 5th at the Parkway Hotel in Dunmanway.

‘We are looking forward to a great day out in Dunmanway and we will have some superbly cared-for and well-loved classic and vintage cars on display,’ Lar promised.
