AN American chat show host has told his audience about his ‘lock-in’ in a B&B in Kinsale.

Jimmy Fallon, host of NBC’s The Tonight Show – the world’s longest-running talk show – made the revelation during an interview with Irish actress Saoirse Ronan last week.

In the course of the interview, Fallon says he went to Kinsale with his sister, and stayed in a ‘B&B’ and at the end of the night the husband and wife owner asked them if they would like ‘one more drink’ with them.

At that point, the ‘whole town comes in, and they lock the door’, he tells his audience, and ‘everyone starts singing’.

Saoirse explains this is known as a ‘lock-in’ in Ireland, and Fallon says the man’s wife was playing the drums and the husband was on the guitar. ‘We were like “this is the greatest thing that ever happened, ever”, we were so happy’.

Saoirse then says that in Ireland the idea is to keep the ‘lock-in’ secret from ‘the guards’, but that the guards usually end up in the middle of it.
