CORK County Council has launched a Special Music Event Scheme in West Cork which got under way in Skibbereen last Saturday afternoon, when musicians entertained the public free of charge at the Bridge. The Council continually tries to create opportunities for engagement and participation in the arts and, with this in mind, funding was provided under the Special Music Event Grant Scheme for both the West Cork and Bandon-Kinsale Municipal Districts. The aim of this scheme is to enhance the towns’ vibrancy as a visitor destinations.

The music events involve significant voluntary input, while also encouraging the local business groups to work with the voluntary groups to promote their local town. Each town applied for funding to hold four music events free of charge to the public on the town streets during the months of July and August and a mixture of traditional music, song and dance will be performed during these events.

The interest and enthusiasm shown by the local business associations and the Comhaltas groups who have come together under this scheme should ensure a successful and enjoyable outcome for all.
