Clonakilty shortlisted in Tourism Awards

CLONAKILTY has joined Cobh on the shortlist of ten highly recommended tourism towns for a Bord Failte Tourism award. 

CLONAKILTY has joined Cobh on the shortlist of ten highly recommended tourism towns for a Bord Failte Tourism award. 

The overall winners will be announced at a ceremony in The Morrison Hotel on Wednesday November 25th where two overall winners will ultimately share the accolade of Ireland’s top Tourism Town – for the Best Large Town and the Best Small Town.

Clonakilty joins Adare, Ardmore, Kenmare, Lismore and Sneem in the Small Town category, while Cobh is up against Killarney, Kilkenny and Tralee in the Large Town section. Each year the 100 top scoring towns from the previous year’s Tidy Town Competition are deemed to be eligible and invited invited to apply for the Tourism Towns Award.

Michael O’Neill of Fernhill House Hotel and Cllr Christopher O Sullivan (FF), who are both directors of Clonakilty Chamber of Commerce, submitted the Clonakilty application.

Michael O’Neill said: ‘Clonakilty is blessed with a wealth of amazing community groups who all work really hard to ensure that the visitor experience.’
