Described as a day that brings ‘both urban and rural people together' the stage is now set for this year's Bandon Agricultural Show, which takes place at the Showgrounds in Castle Bernard in Bandon on Sunday, May 19th.
DESCRIBED as a day that brings ‘both urban and rural people together’ the stage is now set for this year’s Bandon Agricultural Show, which takes place at the Showgrounds in Castle Bernard in Bandon on Sunday, May 19th.
Now in its 67th year, the launch of the action-packed show took place in the Munster Arms Hotel in Bandon last Thursday with chairperson of Bandon Agricultural Show Society, Anne Crowley, thanking those for attending the luanch as well as the various sponsors.
‘Show day is a great day out for all the family and it brings urban and rural people together. It’s a great relaxing day to meet friends you may not have seen since last year’s show.’
Anne added: ‘Show day is a shopfront for cattle, horses, ponies, poultry and outdoor and indoor stands. And not forgetting the popular dog show which is great entertainment too. I also want to thank the hard-working committee and our generous sponsors too many to mention.’
Guest speaker at the launch, chief executive of Carbery Group, Jason Hawkins, quipped that Bandon Show was the only show he didn’t get to attend last year but that it would have to be corrected this year.
He spoke about the company’s plans for investing in the future and highlighted the €78m investment in their new mozzarella cheese line, which is the single largest investment they have made across the group.
‘Brexit is of course a challenge for us in our business, but we are thinking about where we as a company are going. The UK has been a good market for us and the farmers in West Cork, but the opportunities are elsewhere as we look into the future, particularly like Asia. We have someone out there every week and it’s incredibly inspiring to hear of the opportunities there,’ said Jason.
‘It’s a lot of hard work running a show like Bandon Show and the Carbery Group really appreciates the opportunity to support this show and other shows and we will do so for many years to come as we are there for the community.’
This year Bandon Playground Group will be doing the old fashioned games at the Show and it’s free for children, while musical entertainment will be provided by Danny and Mary. There will be plenty of arts and crafts too as well as numerous trade stands showcasing the latest machinery.
The best of local food produce will also be showcased with the SuperValu ‘Meet Our Heroes’ event.A free bus shuttle service will operate from Horgan’s Pharmacy on South Main Street to the showgrounds on show day,starting from 12.30pm.
