AN apprentice electrician has been convicted and fined €250 for a road manoeuvre that caused an accident, Macroom District Court heard.

David Lyons (20), of Coolnasoon, Carrigadrohid, pleaded guilty to careless driving. 

The court heard that on April 22nd last, Mr Lyon’s car was involved in an accident  at Knockavullig, Coachford with another vehicle, after he ended up driving on the side of oncoming traffic in a bend on the road.

The court heard that both cars were written off, while his car ending up in a ditch on the right side of the road. The driver of the other car received a fracture to his wrist.

‘It is a narrow road and he accepts that he was on the incorrect side of the road. The injured party has settled on a 50:50 basis,’ said his solicitor Sean Cahill.

The court heard that Mr Lyons had no previous convictions and was going to work on the morning of the accident. 

Mr Cahill said his client had lost control of the vehicle on executing the bend. Judge Joanne Carroll convicted and fined him  €250 fine giving him three months to pay the fine.
