WITH a new name and ambitious plans to increase its course from nine to 12 holes, Clonakilty Golf Club (formerly Lisselan Golf Club) is mapping out a bright future.

Plans and designs for the golf course were unveiled by its owner and chief executive of Clonakilty Foods, Colette Twomey, at the President and Captain’s Drive, which launched the 2019 golfing season.

The businesswoman – who is the lady captain of Clonakilty Golf Club – purchased Lisselan Estate on the edge of the town in February of last year, in a reported €3m deal.

The estate, which includes an impressive 19th century French-style chateau, on over 315 acres, includes a nine-hole golf course which is now set for an expansion.

Since the purchase, the golf club and lands have continued to be leased and at the time of the purchase Colette was tight-lipped about her plans for the impressive estate.

Clonakilty Golf Club is now a members-run club and is renowned for its stunning scenery and picturesque setting in the shadow of the chateau.
