NAOMH Abán are one victory away from being crowned Munster intermediate champions.

A 2-15 to 2-9 semi-final win away to Moycarkey-Borris has earned Naomh Abán an intermediate provincial final berth against Kerry’s Clounmacon-Moyvane this Sunday in Mallow at 1pm.

Last Saturday’s trip to Tipperary saw the Ballyvourney club deal with awful weather conditions and talented opponents.

Emma O’Sullivan’s early goal had the home side on the front foot after seven minutes. Roisín Ní Liathain and Lydia McDonagh scores helped their opponents get back in the game prior to the latter netting to level matters, 1-8 apiece, at the short whistle.

After starting back last January, it makes all those hard training sessions worth it

It was Naomh Abán who restarted the brighter however, Ní Liathain, McDonagh and Grace Murphy scores stretching the Cork champions’ lead.

Once again Moycarkey-Borris conjured up a response as a second Emma O’Sullivan goal left the bare minimum in it.

It took a superb Roisín Ní Liathain green flag to finally break the Tipperary club’s resolve and that, along with late Lydia McDonagh and Gráinne Ní Luasa efforts, sealed a six-point Naomh Abán victory.

Roisín Ní Liathain and Lydia McDonagh (1-5 each), Gráinne Ní Luasa, Grace Murphy, Rosie Corkery, Annie Maher and Clíona Ní Mhocháin (0-1 each) scored with Amy McDonagh and Muireann Dineen also impressing.

Kerry’s Clounmacon-Moyvane will be Noel McDonagh’s side’s opponent in Sunday’s Munster intermediate decider at Mallow. It is a showdown Naomh Abán captain Colleen Phelan is looking forward to.

‘Being honest, I don’t know much about Clounmacon-Moyvane but everyone is looking forward to playing in the Munster final,’ Phelan told The Southern Star.

‘No doubt Noel (McDonagh, manager) will have his homework done and they will have their homework done on us. It will be more important to focus on our own game, really.

‘We have been on the road for our last two Munster games. Mallow isn’t too far from us and we have played there before, so we don’t have a long spin like the last two weekends.

‘After starting back last January, it makes all those hard training sessions worth it when you’re getting as far as the Munster final. It’s massive for the club.’

Glanmire are the other Cork club left in this year’s Munster LGFA championships. The Cork senior B champions will face Kilmurry-Ibrickane (Clare) in Mallow on Saturday after coming through a tough examination from Kerry’s Na Gaeil last weekend before winning 6-15 to 0-4.
