BALLINSPITTLE’S David Harte is in the running for the 2015 FIH Goalkeeper of the Year award.

Harte is the captain of the Irish men’s hockey team that has qualified for the 2016 Olympic Game in Rio, and he was also voted goalkeeper of the tournament at this year’s European Championships.

Goalkeeper David (27) and his twin brother Conor – both former Bandon Grammar School students – were awarded Celtic Ross West Cork Sports Star of the Month awards last year for playing their part in helping Ireland qualify for the Olympics.

This will be the first Irish hockey team to compete at an Olympics since 1908 and the first Irish team of any sport to represent Ireland at the Olympics since 1948.
