IT’S official – Valley Rovers’ Ben Murphy is a superstar.

The evidence is overwhelming.

Murphy came out on top after a hugely gripping and successful Union Hall Superstars last weekend, winning the main event on Sunday to be crowned the overall Superstar.

Competitors were put through their paces in a variety of events including an 80m sprint, 800m run, rowing (on a machine), basketball, soccer, hang tough and an obstacle course.

Murphy finished with 51 points to win €3,000 for his club Valley Rovers and €1,000 for himself, Maurice Allshire (Howling Hearts) on 44 points finished second with Daniel Nolan (Mick McKenna Auctioneers) third on 39 points.

Shane Howard (Bandon AFC) 36 points, John Crowley (Howling Hearts) 23 points, and Irisney Lima (Studio Gallera, Bandon) 23 points rounded off the top six.

The weekend itself was packed full of activities, as the Union Hall Superstars, in its second year, continues to grow, with participants from Kerry and Limerick, as well as Cork.

The hard work of the committee –  Martin Crowley, Johnny O’Connell, Mark Limrick, John Kelleher, Mickey O’Donovan, Anthony Walsh and Pamela Deasy – and main sponsor, West Cork Distillers, paid off.
