HE'S been promised a win bonus of a toasted sandwich and two pints at The Southern Bar in Dunmanway as well as a season-long free supply of The Southern Star newspaper â but we're still waiting to hear if Sol Campbell will make a sensational switch to the West Cork League â¦
In an interview with The Guardian the former Arsenal, Spurs and England defender lamented how hard it is to get a start in management and how he's prepared to start with a non-league club â and reigning WCL Premier Division champions Dunmanway Town have wasted little time in approaching the 42-year-old.
Via Twitter on Sunday morning, Dunmanway's enticing invite was issued: âWe  @DunmanwaySoccer who are @westcorkleague Premier champions would like to take you up on your offer to manage...
âThe chairman of Dunmanway Town said Sol Campbell will get the usual win bonus of a toastie and two pints in The Southern Bar.'
Dunmanway Town's latest update said: âTalks are ongoing but The Southern Star  subscription could seal it.'
As of yet we're awaiting Campbell's response to this enticing offer that many in local soccer circles believe will be too hard to turn down.
No manager in the history of the West Cork League has been offered such attractive extras like toasted sandwiches, free pints and free copies of The Southern Star, and Dunmanway Town are confident that this package deal, complete with a win bonus, will be enough to entice Campbell across the water and into the heart of West Cork soccer where only the best survive.
With over a month to go to the start of the new WCL season, Campbell will have to make his decision soon.
âIt's proving difficult (to get a manager's job) and if I have to start at the bottom, I will,' Campbell admitted.Â
âPeople may think that I just want to manage in the Premier League but I'm prepared to go to a non-league club, and if they can't pay me a salary just pay me a win bonus. I'm up for that.Â
âI won't be up for that four or five years down the line but definitely for the first year, as long as it's a good club with ambition.Â
âI'm itching to start, I just need a chance, even just an interview in which I can say: âTake me for free and I'll show you what I can do.'â
Whether Campbell could cut it on the sideline of the WCL is a question that everyone wants answered.
Sol, we're waiting for your response â¦
