IN an epic senior men’s final, Courtmacsherry held off the challenge of Galley, Kilmacsimon and host club Passage West to claim gold in the county finals last Sunday week.

In the senior ladies final, Casletownbere overcame Galley to take the title with Kilmacsimon coming in third.

In the senior mixed race, Kilmacsimon won a titanic battle with Passage West, with Castletownbere taking the bronze.

Kilmacsimon went on to have a superb regatta, winning the club of the day award which is based on the most wins secured. They won five gold, just ahead of Passage West who won four and Whitegate with three. Kilmacsimon’s golds were in U18 and U21 ladies, U21 and masters’ men, and senior mixed.

Ring had wins in U18 men and pre-veteran mixed, while their U18 ladies, veteran ladies and junior men took silver.

Courtmacsherry won in senior men and U16 men while their masters’ ladies and masters’ mixed crews both claimed silver. Rosscarbery confirmed their status as the top underage club in the county, winning two gold, in U14 girls and U12 boys, while gaining silver in U12 and U14 boys as well as U16 girls.

Galley’s veteran-mixed won gold while both their senior men and senior ladies crews took silver as did their pre-veteran men and U21 ladies.

Kilmacabea’s veteran ladies took gold, their junior ladies won silver while their junior men, U12 boys and U12 girls took bronze.

This weekend should prove more relaxing for rowers as they enjoy the timber yawl regattas in Courtmacsherry on Saturday and Rosscarbery on Sunday.
