Biggest-ever Skibbereen Regatta will take place on Saturday and Sunday

THE biggest-ever Skibbereen Regatta this weekend will double up as the first races on Irish water this year for the club’s returning elite rowers.

Olympic silver medallists Paul and Gary O’Donovan and world champions Mark O’Donovan and Shane O’Driscoll are due back into Ireland later this week after their winter training and racing in New Zealand and Australia.

All four are expected to compete at Skibbereen Rowing Club’s home regatta – this Saturday and Sunday, April 14th and 15th – at the National Rowing Centre on Inniscarra Lake, Farran Woods.

A whopping 770 crews from 46 rowing clubs will compete in 200 races over the two days. Both male and female athletes from Junior 14 to Senior and Masters will battle out on the magnificent six-lane course, with heats starting at 8am both days.

This regatta is the first in the three-strong Rowing Ireland Grand League Regatta Series.
