THE awards kept coming for talented young Bantry Bay golfer Mel Deasy before Christmas.
After being named the Munster Junior Player of the Year in late November, Mel then picked up a Celtic Ross West Cork Youth Sports Star Award in recognition of his fantastic year that saw him win both the Munster Boys’ U16 Open and the Munster U15 title within two weeks of each other.
Mel, who turns 16 this month, was also selected on the Golfing Union of Ireland team for an U16 Quadrangular (Four Nations) tournament in The Netherlands early last year.
He is now in the running for the overall 2018 West Cork Youth Sports Star Award which will be announced in The Southern Star next week.
