CURRENT West Cork Youth Sports Star Laura Nicholson showed the form that helped her win the prestigious award as she raced to gold at the Irish Life Health Juvenile Track and Field Championships on Sunday. The Bandon athlete came out on top of a tactical U19 3000m final, waiting until two laps from home to make her move as she won in 10:11.61, over 14 seconds ahead of Grace Carson in second place.

A few weeks ago, Laura ran a 1500m PB of 4.32 at the British Milers Club Grand Prix in Loughborough, England.

Laura will compete in the second weekend of the U19 championships this Sunday where she’ll race in the 1500m, and the following weekend she’ll experience life at senior level when she competes in the 1500m heats at the national senior championships.
