KINSALE, Bandon, Tadhg MacCárthaigh, Ilen Rovers and Ibane Ladies recorded impressive victories in the Cork Credit Unions Cork LGFA county leagues on another busy weekend of action.

Kinsale’s first Division 1 Group 1 outing saw the West Cork side travel to Carrigaline on Sunday. David Coughlan’s team made the perfect start, with first-half goals from Jenny Murphy and Caoimhe Horgan proving decisive in a hard-earned 2-8 to 0-11 win. Horgan (1-6) and Murphy (1-2) accounted for all of Kinsale’s scores, with Áine Ní Chearnaigh, Gráinne Cowhig and Anna Kelleher also impressing.

In the same group, O’Donovan Rossa were unable to bounce back from their opening loss as they fell to Glanmire. Trailing 2-7 to 1-1 at the break, the Skibbereen side could not bridge the gap despite limiting the hosts to five second-half points. Lia Hogan (1-0) and Ellen Healy (0-2) were their scorers.

Naomh Abán lost by a point at home to St Val’s, 1-10 to 2-6, in Division 1 Group 2, while Aghada edged Mourneabbey 3-12 to 3-11.

Rosscarbery’s Division 2 Group 2 debut ended in defeat away to Midleton. The hosts led 2-2 to 0-3 at half-time before completing a 6-4 to 1-6 win. Ciara O’Rourke, Ciara Hourihan, Orla Tobin and Sarah Hayes were among Rosscarbery’s scorers.

Valley Rovers also lost out in a high-scoring contest, going down 7-10 to 5-4 at home to Fermoy.

Bandon joined Nemo Rangers at the top of Division 3 following an impressive 4-15 to 3-1 win away to Erin’s Own in Caherlag. Clodagh Barry (2-4), Laura Cummins and Evelyn McCarthy (1-3 each), Anna Daly, Hannah Buckley and Jess Bolster all found the net or target, while Aisling O’Connor and Ella Cullinane also stood out.

A West Cork derby between Tadhg MacCárthaigh and Dohenys in Caheragh finished 2-3 to 0-3 in the home side’s favour. In difficult, windy conditions, scores were at a premium. Tadhg MacCárthaigh moved level with Dohenys in second place thanks to Maureen Keating (1-2), Emma Hegarty (1-0) and Ellen Hurley (0-1). Georgina Farr, Ciara Aherne and Ava O’Donovan replied.

Ilen Rovers who maintained their perfect Division 6 county league record with victory away to Glanworth.

Beara remain without a win in Division 4 after a 2-16 to 2-5 defeat away to Rockbán. Ballincollig and Watergrasshill lead the standings.

Ibane Ladies produced a dominant display to defeat St Michael’s 6-21 to 1-1 and move into a share of the Division 5 lead. Ciara Deasy (2-4), Ellen O’Riordan (1-3), Alice O’Leary (0-6), Róisín Ní Bhuachalla (0-4) and Sinéad Walsh (1-1) led the scoring, with Grace Flynn, Grace Tobin (1-0 each), Caoimhe Ní Bhuachalla (0-2) and Sinéad McCarthy (0-1) also on target.

Clann na nGael recorded a 4-8 to 2-8 win away to Ballinhassig to join Ibane, Youghal, Lisgoold, Ballinhassig and St Michael’s at the summit.

Ilen Rovers made it two wins from two in Division 6 with a 4-13 to 1-9 victory away to Glanworth. Leading 2-6 to 1-7 at half-time, they pulled clear after the break with two further goals. Maebh Collins (2-4), Maria Connolly (1-2), Clare Collins (1-0), Carla O’Regan (0-5) and Keelin Murphy (0-2) were among their scorers.

St Colum’s hopes of a first Division 7 Group 1 win were ended by St Catherine’s, who secured a 4-10 to 2-8 victory in Kealkill. Trailing 2-5 to 1-6 at half-time, a second-half rally fell short. Katie Dineen (2-1), Ella Downey (0-6) and Jane Hourihan (0-1) scored, while goalkeeper Caroline Lucey impressed.

Kilmacabea’s scheduled Division 8 Group 1 fixture with St Nick’s was postponed.

Keelnameela conceded a walkover to St Mary’s in Division 8 Group 2 but remain in contention after their opening-round win over Ballycastle, when Aoife McCarthy (1-5), Leah O’Sullivan (1-0), Michelle O’Driscoll (1-2) and Shauna O’Driscoll (1-0) were on target.
