Carbery Rangers’ Tipp import, Robbie Kiely (24), in his first season with Ross, talks owls, Oasis and West Cork humour

Rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 on how funny you are? I’d say 7 out of 10, although some of my jokes can be a hit and miss. Some of them can go down like a lead balloon. I’m still adapting to the West Cork sense of humour.

Highlight of your sporting career? That would probably be winning the Munster U21 championship down in Kerry back in 2010.

Most dialled number on your phone? My mother! I’m always checking in and making sure that the dinner will be sorted by the time I call in to her!

What’s your karaoke song? I wouldn’t be a fella to stand up and sing. You would have to force me, to be honest. I’d say I’d go for Wonderwall by Oasis, but only if I was pushed.

Best-ever holiday? Probably when I went skiing in Switzerland back after I finished the Leaving Cert. Details are sketchy though.

If you won the lotto what would you buy first? I’d probably buy my own private island. I’d invite the Carbery Rangers lads to visit alright. That would be eventful, to say the least.

What’s your favourite word? Interesting.

Your most treasured item of clothing? Probably my runners. I like a good pair of runners and I’m into my ‘kicks’ alright.

Favourite cartoon? It would have to be Family Guy.

Who is the biggest moaner in training? That would have to be Tom O’Rourke. It is just when decisions go against him in training he tends to start giving out. It is a new thing for me but he moans a small bit alright!

Who in the Carbery Rangers team fancies themselves as a singer? It has to be Mick O’Donovan. In fairness he is the best singer in the team as he gets up and sings loads of country songs. He helps the rest of us out if we don’t know the words as well!

If I was an animal then I would be an ... owl because I’m not really a morning person, I can see the big picture plus I have two owls of my own at home and they are pretty cool.
