Goodbye Kerry. If Rosscarbery rower Ronan Mannix had his way, the Kingdom would be cast adrift, leaving more All-Ireland coastal titles to West Cork crews. We like this plan.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? People.
What would I find in your fridge right now? A four pack of Lucozade, to fill the cup after our regatta win, or just for after training tomorrow.
Name one element your sport could/should take from another? Well, you could take the hurley from hurling and use it as an oar …
What do you think about when you’re alone in your car? I’ll tell ye that after I buy a car.
Who has been the biggest influence on your sporting career?
Brian Hegarty, our stroke – his dedication is second to none!
Pick two celebrities to be your parents: Jim Carey, because he might give me a bit of extra height, and and Kim Kardashian, because then I’m guaranteed to have a cool name.
What do you think cats dream about? I dream about cats so I presume cats dream about me?
If you could play any other sport for one day what would it be? Even though you don’t actually play it, I’d love to do boxing.
If you joined a circus, what would you perform? Flying trapeze, no questions asked.
If you could get rid of one county in Ireland what would it be and why? Kerry – it would make it way easier on me and the lads to win at the rowing All-Irelands then.
What would you do if you found a penguin in your freezer?
I’d close the door slowly and stop drinking, and if that didn’t work, I’d go to the living room and ask my celebrity father, mister Jim Carey, to see if one of the cast of Mr Poppers Penguins is missing.
Before we let you go, teach us something that we don’t know: Rowing is hard – we just make it look easy!
After a break last weekend, the South West Championship returns this Sunday with the third regatta of the season, Castletownshend the venue. Ronan Mannix (18) and his Rosscarbery U18 crew-mates are joint top of championship table, vying for the title with Ring RC, so they’ll look to make their presence felt again.
