The safest pair of hands in ladies' football, Ballinascarthy's Martina O'Brien (25), who works as a massage therapist in Tralee and who has won eight All-Irelands at various levels, was a surprisingly late starter to football...

Martina OBrienRate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 on how funny you are? 7 or 8. I think I’m hilarious BUT I don’t think others would agree. My brother likes to tell me regularly I’m not a bit funny!

Highlight of your sporting career? I’m lucky to say there have been a few but winning the county junior C camogie championship would have to be the one. We had been trying to win it for fout years, losing in the final one year and in semi-finals two other years. In close second would be my very first All-Ireland with my school and last year’s All-Ireland with Cork.

Most dialled number on your phone? It has to be my two friends who are abroad because we FaceTime quite a bit.

What’s your karaoke song? If I sang people would cry, but I do love a good duet, a Whitney Houston classic.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself? I didn’t start playing football with a ladies’ football team until I was nearly 16 years old.

Best-ever holiday? A family holiday to France a number of years ago.

If you won the lotto what would you buy first? I would most definitely go clothes shopping and buy everything in sight!

Separated at birth, who’s your celebrity twin double? Honestly, I don’t think I have one but myself and my sister are often mistaken for twins. She’s not famous though so it doesn’t count!

What’s your favourite word? It has to be ‘like’. I overuse the word massively when attempting to explain something, like.

If you could change any part of you what would it be? I wish my metabolism was faster, then I could eat more!

Your most treasured item of clothing? My fluffy Man United blanket. My house in Tralee is freeeeezing so it keeps me from freezing to death every evening!

Favourite cartoon? Scooby Doo. I like a good crime mystery.

If I was an animal then I would be a ... tiger. They are incredibly strong, fast and have great endurance – everything you need as a sportsperson!

What question would you liked to have been asked in this interview? What’s your favourite food? There wouldn’t be enough paper to fit in my answer though.
