First-half goals set Ilen up for victory against Dohenys

ILEN Rovers won the Paddy Minihane Invitational Cup final (3-17 to 1-14) against Dohenys in Bantry on bank holiday Monday.

Three first-half goals from Sean O’Donovan (2) and Alan Holland gave Ilen a lead they never relinquished, and they led 3-7 to 1-6 at half time, Mark Quinn getting the Dohenys goal.

The Dunmanway side rallied in the second half, with scores from Eoin Lavers and Mark Buckley, but Ilen had enough in the tank to hold on.

This is an ideal boost for Ilen ahead of their upcoming Kelleher Shield relegation play-off against Clonakilty this Sunday in Kilmacabea.
