FORMER world junior kickboxing champion Grainne Begley won two medals at the recent Laois Open Kickboxing tournament.

Begley was in action in both the senior and junior categories, fighting superbly to bring home a gold in the seniors and a bronze in the junior categories.

She was one of eight from West Cork Kickboxing Club that travelled to Laois and brought home an impressive medal haul.

Ian Hurley was in action in the senior continuous category, and won a tremendous final to bring home gold. Luca Roza, fighting in the older cadet category, had some great fights, and won gold in continuous.

Luc Cronin and Michael Collins, also fighting in the junior category, were in top form to win bronze and silver respectively.

Adam O’Donoghue, fighting older cadet U14, won silver in continuous, with Cian Collins, also fighting older cadet, winning gold. Cian’s younger brother Evan, fighting in the younger cadet category, also won gold.

Head coach Ian Kingston was delighted with the performances of all his fighters, saying it was a great competition for all of them, especially those preparing for the world championships being held in Venice, Italy in September.

As always West Cork Kickboxing Club would like to thank club sponsors, The Brick Oven, Calor Gas, and Laide & O’Brien, whose fantastic support helps make participation in these competitions possible.
