SEAN Daly was named Dohenys’ Player of the Year at the club’s recent victory celebration. Daly, who represented the Cork U21s and had a fine year in both codes in 2017, picked up the Denis Crowley Perpetual Trophy.

Meanwhile, the Club Person/Persons of the Year Award went to the organising committee of the Strictly Dunmanway Dancing, consisting of Michael Farr, Anna Murphy, Mary Hayes, Miriam Forbes and Karen Farr.

The victory celebration was a great success, with close on 200 people in attendance. The new format of the dinner dance was met with approval and everyone had a very enjoyable night.

This year’s social celebrated the successes of the Doheny ladies winning the Junior West Cork championship, the Doheny U21A footballers securing the West Cork championship, the U21B hurlers winning the West Cork championship and Sam Maguire minor footballers claiming a county and West Cork championship/league double. Meanwhile, the junior A footballers got their league campaign off to a winning start with a 1-13 to 1-5 win over Kilbrittain in Sam Maguire Park. The senior footballers lost away to Rockchapel on a score-line of 3-9 to 1-11 in Division 3 of the county football league. Dohenys led by four points at one stage but a five-minute blitz by Rockchapel midway through the second half flipped the game on its head and the home side ran out victors.
