IRISH junior karate competitor Adam Sheehan, from Crookstown, certainly left his mark at the recent SKIEF Karate European Championships held in Prague.

The gutsy 14-year-old, who is a member of Crookstown Karate Club, took bronze in Kumite (fighting).

His success came in a category in which 52 competitors from 24 countries fought it out for medal glory.

Delighted Irish junior squad coach and Bandon native, Sensei Garrett O’Donovan, explained that it’s been over 20 years since an Irish junior squad member finished in a medal position.

Next for Adam are the national championships in September and from there all eyes will be on the World Karate Championships in Tokyo.
