West Cork teenager named in the Republic of Ireland U19 team for friendly internationals against Ukraine

KEALKILL teenager Connor Ellis has been named in the Republic of Ireland U19 team for the two friendly internationals against Ukraine that will be played in Limerick's Markets Field in October.

Current Celtic Ross West Cork Youth Sports Star of the Year Ellis was also involved in the Ireland U19 team that was defeated by Italy (2-1) last month.

Republic of Ireland U19 head coach Paul Doolin is looking to shape his squad before the UEFA U19 Championships qualifying round that takes place in Galway and Limerick in November.

Doolin commented: ‘We're going into these two games still looking at players and still trying to find an 11 for the competitive games which doesn't help matters. It's a strong enough qualifying round group that we're in. Even going back to when they were U17s there were a few positions that needed to be nailed down.’

West Cork striker Ellis, who made his first-team debut with Cork City this season, will be looking to impress Doolin and force his way into the squad for the UEFA U19 Championships qualifying round.
