THERE were mixed results for Clonakilty and Valley Rovers in their county U21 A football quarter-finals over the weekend.

On Sunday in Kilmurry, Clonakilty lost 1-11 to 0-10 against reigning champs Nemo Rangers, who were boosted by second-half sub Chiedozie Ogbene in a game that was level, 0-5 apiece, at half time.

Ryan Kennedy, Aidan O’Donovan and Kevin O’Donovan helped Nemo move five clear in the second half, as Clon trailed 0-10 to 0-7 with 20 minutes to play.

But once Chiedozie Ogbene set up Barry Madden’s goal for Nemo with less than ten minutes left, there was only going to be on winner. Jack Cowhig (0-5, 2f), Ian Falvey (0-3, 1f) and Jack O’Mahony (0-2) were Clon’s scorers on the day, as they failed to follow up their third South West U21 A title in a row with a county run.

Meanwhile, Valleys Rovers eased past Fermoy on Saturday, winning 4-9 to 1-5, thanks to goals from Billy Crowley, Darragh Lordan, Danny O’Sullivan and Eoin O’Reilly. Valleys led 2-7 to 0-3 at the break.

Don’t miss Thursday’s Southern Star for full reports from both games.
