Farmers have been infuriated by the revelation that, while they endure rigorous on-farm audits by Bord Bia to prove they are maintaining high standards, the chairman of Bord Bia has been importing beef and chicken meat from Brazil, where lower standards have been shown to prevail.

Fifth year students at Coláiste na Toirbhirte, Milly Seaman and Ella McCarthy, took part in - and won - the regional finals of the Soroptimist Ireland Girls' Public Speaking Competition which was held in Ballintemple last Saturday. Both girls delivered superb speeches and will now progress to the national finals at The Mansion House in Dublin in March.

Pupils from Lisheen National School walked to school last Friday as part of the Big Travel Challenge run by the Green Schools Programme to encourage sustainable travel to school.
The Caheragh Vintage and District Club presented funds of €3,000 to the Tadgh MacCarthaigh ladies GAA and €3,000 to the West Cork Jesters, which were the proceeds from a tractor run they held on St Stephen’s Day.
