UNLOCKED cars parked in driveways are being targeted by criminals in West Cork.
Five unlocked vehicles were broken into outside houses in Carrig Aoil estate, Cloghduv on August 16th.
Small amounts of cash were taken in most cases while an iphone charger was also stolen. A sixth unlocked car was targeted in the nearby Cois Cille estate where money was stolen.
In a different style crime, on August 25th, a window was smashed in a car parked at Charles Fort, Kinsale and cash and a wallet worth €150 were taken.
In Belgooly on August 27th, a walker returned to their car to find a window smashed and €170 worth of property taken.
Sgt Ian O’Callaghan, crime prevention officer for West Cork said they were concerned that people were leaving their cars open.
Meanwhile, between Monday night and Tuesday morning, an outboard engine and six life jackets were taken from a punt in Glengarriff.
