UPWARDS of 40 new jobs are to be created in Skibbereen this side of Christmas.
The positions are being created by EPS as part of the €28m Skibbereen Regional Water Supply Scheme. Jobs include construction workers, engineers, project managers and site operators.
Work is starting on the scheme in the coming weeks and will take 18 months to complete.
Long term there will be between five and seven jobs on offer in the area of mainteance.
EPS has been awarded the contract by Irish Water and the Council, and is Ireland’s largest, privately owned Design-Build-Operate (DBO) partner for the delivery and operation of water and wastewater assets.
The €28m scheme means that 7,000 people in the areas of Skibbereen, Drimoleague, Schull, Leap and Sherkin Island will benefit from the improved drinking water quality and a more secure water supply.
EPS managing director Patrick Buckley said they were undertaking an extensive search for civil and mechanical engineers, project managers, site managers and quantity surveyors.
‘It’s an opportune time for anyone considering relocating to West Cork from other parts of the country or moving back home from abroad,’ he said.
