TWO local men have been honoured for 30 years’ service each to Cork West Civil Defence.

Skibbereen’s Garry Minihane and Don O’Sullivan from Rosscarbery were presented with a special medal by Minister Paul Keogh to mark their contribution at a function in Croke Park last Friday.

Garry and Don have volunteered in many missing persons searches in the region, assisted in cases of severe flooding in the greater West Cork area, and provided medical safety cover at many events over the last three decades.

They have been part of Cork West Civil Defence teams who participated and won All Ireland titles in first aid and rescue competition, and also train Civil Defence volunteers in the area.

John Crowley and Julie O’Sullivan, also of Cork West Civil Defence, were presented with 1916/2016 commemorative medals at the ceremony.
