A 16-YEAR old girl from Ballydehob held a ‘Hollywood Glamour’ charity ball at the Maritime Hotel in Bantry recently and has so far raised around €700 for the Hope Foundation.

Sophie O’Sullivan is planning to travel to India in April to help in a voluntary capacity with the organisation that offers an immediate and lasting change in the lives of children.

To date, the Hope Foundation has helped to protect more than two million children who live on the streets and in slums in Kolkata.

About 130 people attended the charity ball last weekend, which featured four popular DJs from ‘Banthree’. Schull-based photographer John Walsh was also there to capture what was both a glamorous occasion and an altruistic event.

Over the next few months, Sophie, a transition year student at Schull Community College, will be continuing her fundraising efforts with events like coffee mornings, a sponsored family walk, and a stall at Christmas markets.
