Gardai in West Cork have not yet ruled out a criminal case following the death of a man in Skibbereen in September 2017

GARDAI in West Cork have not yet ruled out a criminal case following the death of a man in Skibbereen in September 2017.

Jonathan ‘John’ Ustic,  (51)who was found at his home on 15 High St in Skibbereen, was the subject of an inquest in Bandon this week.

He died from a blunt force trauma to his head and upper body, the sitting of the Coroner’s Court heard.

Supt Ger O’Mahony said Mr Ustic was seen alive on September 24th 2017 but his body was found at his home at 9am the following day.

He said a murder investigation got underway and a completed investigation file is currently with the DPP.

‘We cannot take it any further than the evening of the 24th when we know he was alive,’ the Supt said.

Prof Cassidy told the inquest a contributory factor in the death was acute alcohol intoxication. Supt O’Mahony said that because there may be a criminal prosecution, he was seeking an adjournment, which was granted, until June 2nd, 2020.
