Kinsale gets 40 new social homes

A HOUSING scheme to deliver 40 new badly-needed homes in Kinsale was launched this week. 

The project, which is a collaboration between Clúid Housing and Cork County Council, has been 10 years in the pipeline. 

The scheme comprises 18 two-storey two-bed and 20 two-storey three-bed houses, as well as two single storey two-bed special needs dwellings, and has a construction value of €9.7m.  Called Radharc An tSaile,  the social houses will be developed  at Cappagh, Ballinacubby. Clúid said the project was a ‘very fine example of what can be achieved when local authorities and housing associations work in partnership to meet demand.’ 

The contractor appointed is MMD Construction Cork and this project is due for completion in 20 months’ time.

Clúid Housing’s new business manager James O’Halloran said: ‘Breaking ground on the site in Kinsale marks an important milestone of a journey that will end in 2020.  

‘We celebrate the result of a long-standing relationship between Cork County Council and Clúid. We simply cannot create homes without partnerships with local authorities,’ he added.
