Skibbereen's Rossa College of Further Education is to come under the umbrella of the Cork College of Commerce from September.

SKIBBEREEN’S Rossa College of Further Education is to come under the umbrella of the Cork College of Commerce from September.

As a result, the College of Commerce will now have a West Cork campus. Rossa College will continue to offer a range of courses and in time it is hoped to expand the courses available.

From September, students attending Rossa College will officially be students of the College of Commerce and will be certified as such. ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for the region where there has been limited access to further education,’ said Rossa College principal Stephen Gilbert this week. ‘This joint venture coincides with the departure of second level students from the building, meaning Rossa College is now a fully dedicated Further Education Centre.’

College of Commerce principal Helen Ryan said the move represents a real opportunity for both the college and th e region. Speaking in Skibbereen recently she referred to the great potential of the college.

Currently, the Level 5 courses on offer at Rossa are healthcare, childcare, art craft and design, ebusiness (business and computers) and horticulture. At Level 6, the college offers advanced business and art.  All courses are certified by QQI (Fetac) and work experience is an integral component of each.  For more, call 028 21644 or see www.rossacollege.ie.
