CATS and dogs are in line for some pampering as an holistic therapy practice in Kinsale is now offering companion animals – as well as their owners –  a range of complementary therapies.

The Retreat Kinsale, run by Siobhán Callan and Geffrey Kane, is giving animals the chance to find comfort, physical improvement as well as mental relaxation in simple seclusion in their dedicated animal area.

‘I strongly believe in the “one medicine” approach with medicine for all animals, the human being is after all just another animal,’ said Siobhán, a qualified veterinary  nurse and holistic therapist.

‘If you look at veterinary medication, it’s just the same as human medication. Often, the technology used in veterinary hospitals is out of date equipment from human hospitals. 

‘So why make the distinction?’ asked Siobhán. ‘And why shouldn’t our animal companions have access to the complimentary therapies we treat ourselves to?’

The business has found itself at the epicentre of a new wave of animal health and wellbeing demand and  is keen to stress the point that all animals – whether human or the four-legged variety – can benefit from holistic therapies.

‘The vision for the Retreat Kinsale is not to simply offer the run-of-the-mill spa services, but to offer full body and mind holistic health,’ said Geffrey Kane.

‘Our hypnotherapy services aims to offer clients a range of tools and techniques to combat everything from phobias to anxiety as well as the traditional habit breaking treatments.’

The clinic offers Indian face and head massage, reflexology as well as hypnotherapy.
