Dancer and choreographer Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín is inviting dancers with some experience and none, to get involved in Country OK this spring in Skibbereen. County OK is a dance performance project that aims to create an intergenerational space dedicated to the joy of dancing, with no upper age limit. The project is inspired by the songs of country music, in a contemporary expression of the spirit of social dances, dance halls and dancing bodies across the city and county.

The production has already had great success at the Cork Midsummer Festival in 2024, and this year, Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre are supporting the project in this part of the world. It is free of charge to take part, with a choice of rehersal times.

Rehearsals will take place on Wednesdays, on February 11th, 18th, and 25th February, and on March 4th, 11th, and 18th in the both the O’Donovan Rossa GAA Pavilion (from 11am to 12:30pm) and at the Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre, Skibbereen (from 6:30pm to 8pm) with choreographer Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín, live musicians, and a supporting cast of professional dancers.

You can choose to attend either venue. The project will culminate in two performances at the Town Hall in Skibbereen on Saturday, March 28th and Sunday March 29th, from 7pm to 9pm each evening.

Adults and young people aged over 14 years old who are interested in dance and movement, theatre and creativity are welcome to apply, and there is no charge for taking part.

No previous dance experience is required, and there is no upper age limit.

This is an inclusive project and the organisers endeavour to support individuals with a disability to take part. Financial support is available to subsidise access support in order to participate, for example, arranging accessible transport. The project will also take place in Uíbh Ráthach, county Kerry followed by Limerick and Tipperary later in the year.

For registration and further information, please contact Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín at [email protected], 086-1074770, or at www.siobhannidhuinnin.com.

The deadline for Registration is Wednesday February 4th. Places are limited, and so it is recommended to get in touch early.
